Time Flies…

A trick to take a more flattering picture by turning your camera upside down.
I had a couple of hours in between the time I got in to the campground and before I needed to be back, so we drove a couple miles down the road to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The ladies at the campground recommended visiting Cade's Cove.
It was a very pretty drive and the weather was nice enough to keep the windows down. Cade's Cove is on a one way loop, and there are quite a few of the original buildings that are still standing and in good enough condition to tour. I couldn't go in the buildings since Jack was with me, but I got to take a peek inside the churches. We saw a few deer who were used to people, dogs, and cars. Jack barked at them, but they didn't even bother to look up.
I saw quite a few families who brought picnic lunches and kites with them. There were a few families and many couples who were riding their bikes around the loop. They also had horseback riding, several trails, and quite a few other things to do, so I imagine we'll have to take a trip back when Paul is old enough to enjoy it.
After seeing this, I want to go into DC in time for dawn. Maybe once I get caught up on sleep next week, I'll try to get there before dawn.
My ancestors were Scottish, and so whenever I think of Scotland, I think of kilts, kirks, and castles. I happen to also think of it as mostly as what the Smoky Mountains would be like with no modern development. This picture of the Glasgow Science Center is about as far as you can get from that.
It's so vivid that it lends itself very well to being an inspiration to a short story. It's been a few years since I've really written any shorts. I think the last was when I was in college and I would work on them in class instead of taking notes. Maybe I'll have some time to spin this into a short next week.
