Last week at the Reston Zoo

I finally got a chance to hang out with Tamara and her daughter last week. We met at the Reston Zoo on Thursday. I was pretty stressed when I got there, since the maids actually managed to remember to show up.

However, while I was wishing I knew how to say "The baby is sleeping upstairs. Please don't wake him." in Spanish and trying to explain it, one of the maids dropped her supplies on the floor very loudly. Paul starts screaming (he'd only been sleeping for about 10 minutes). Then one of the maids said "Ohh! Baby sleeping!" and I was about ready to cry since I'd spent the better part of an hour trying to help him sleep in spite of his teeth bothering him.

Paul and I just barely made it on the safari ride, but once we were on there, it was easy to relax. They had camels, llamas, a few different types of deer, emus, and zebras that would come up to be fed. Paul kept trying to climb out of the trailer and onto the overly friendly camels. After the ride was over, we went to the petting barn. Even though he hasn't had a bottle in months, Paul got very upset about the lamb bottles. We settled for going over to the chicken coop and throwing them what was left of our feed.

On our way out, we saw the monkey family finally had their baby. They looked very sweet, cuddled together like that. And Paul looked even sweeter when I pulled into our driveway, since he was finally napping.

When four of my friends look back on February 24, 2006, they will remember that it was a day that marked the end of an era in their lives.

Tamara and Andrew were married in a lovely ceremony performed her sister. Good friends, good food, and good wine... can't think of anyway better to celebrate getting married. So here's to Tamara and Andrew- May last night be the first of many happy times you'll share during your marriage.

Maria and Jason were there also. Maria was due next week, but it turns out that the wedding will be their last outing before they officially become parents. As I write this, Maria and Jason are at the hospital, waiting on their little boy to make his appearance. I'm guessing he will probably make his way into the world by early evening at the latest, but I'm hoping Maria's labor will be short and easy.

If You Give a Baby a Teething Biscuit…

Paul is working on cutting his molars, and he gets rather fussy if there's nothing to gnaw on. Clayton and I were getting ready to go out to see Gwen Stefani and Black Eyed Peas in concert, so we were trying to keep Paul occupied. I handed him a teething biscuit and he quickly got it wet and sticky before getting it all over his face. A quick bath later, and he was ready to hang out with his babysitter, Caroline.

Tamara joined us for dinner and the concert. We went by Champs and the service was not even approaching adequate. I ended up with no food because they served me bad fish and there wasn't time to do anything about it. The line to park at GMU was quite long, but we finally made it to a parking spot and in the door. Read more »
